Our Heroes

Yerzle:  Kicked out of the King's Huntsmen for fraternizing with the game of the King's Forest (and one doe in particular), Yerzle has set out to prove to his detractors that he can make something of himself.  Unfortunately for him, he chose the hyper-competitive treasure-acquisition industry.  Smart, sincere, and eager, the alleged leader of this intrepid band works hard to keep the group focused, but he is finding it much harder than he had first thought.  His past feelings for Portia are well known, but he has discovered that success here is no more assured than in his work.

First appearance:  July 31, 2000

Mousashi Miyamoto:  Exiled from his homeland for reasons he will not fully disclose, the ronin Mousashi Miyamoto (or "Sashi" to his friends) wandered the Middle Kingdoms, attempting to reclaim his sullied honor, making his way as a mercenary before he met Yerzle.  Hot-tempered and quick to anger, Sashi is nonetheless an honest and honorable warrior who will fight injustice whenever he sees it.  He has struck up a close friendship with Stillwell.

First appearance:  August 10, 2000

Stillwell:  Although he once competed at an elite level, Stillwell was pressured by his matriarch to abandon his dreams of professional dance and take up the family business of thievery.  Still resentful of this, he does not always take his new job as seriously as Yerzle and the others might like, relying on his uncanny luck to save him.  Younger than he looks, he can be easily distracted, sometimes with unpleasant results.  He and Sashi have struck up a close friendship, and the ronin is attempting to instill some job pride in the young bull.

First appearance:  August 17, 2000

Portia:  A recent graduate of the Sorcerer's College, Portia is on the run from her family and their vision of her future.  Naturally independent and strong-willed, her upbringing also led her to become bossy and selfish (but mainly only when she's not thinking about it).  Insecure about her magic and her status among a group of men, she hides behind a mask of sarcasm and cynicism.  Despite the façade, she is fiercely loyal to her new comrades and will do her part to further their success.  She is quite aware of Yerzle's attraction to her, but the arrival of both Fubaar and Fawn have complicated things in that regard.

First appearance:  August 24, 2000

Dozer:  A refugee from his war-torn homeland, Dozer was the lone survivor of a massacre that killed the rightful Emperor and seated a usurperon the throne.  Subsequently wanted for treason, he fled for his life in the hope that he might one day be able to return in the service of the true heir.   Older and more worldly-wise than the others, he balances out Yerzle’s frantic optimism, Portia’s relentless pessimism, and Stillwell’s blundering naivete.  He is solid and unshakable, the perfect warrior to have at one’s back.  Tough and practical, he also has a poetic streak that only rarely sees the light of day.

First appearance:  August 31, 2000

Fubaar:  A barbarian from the mountain tribes, Fubaar left his clan to descend into the Middle Kingdoms for reasons he keeps to himself.  He met Stillwell while both were trapped in Rosa's lair.  Once rescued by the others, he and Portia began a relationship almost immediately, much to the consternation of Yerzle, who took an instant dislike to him.  He has thoroughly gotten into Yerzle's head, and at this point has successfully wrested control of the enterprise away from him.  It remains to be seen how long this lasts.

First appearance:  June 6, 2001

Fawn Mitexi:  Expelled from her game position in the King's Forest for dating Yerzle, Fawn is now an alchemist's apprentice in Pervis Gap, and a tinkerer in her spare time.  She and Yerzle have also renewed their relationship.  Portia took an intense dislike to her upon their meeting, for reasons she cannot adequately explain, so although Fawn is a trusting and forgiving person by nature, she generally avoids the sorceress as much as she can.

First appearance:  May 24, 2002

The Villains

The Fowl Legions of D'hegs:

First appearance:  September 4, 2000

Emperor (Baron) Hamm:

First appearance:  September 4, 2000

Rosa:  A self-styled agitator and revolutionary, Rosa has run afoul of the dragon establishment by liquidating her treasure hoard in an attempt to mobilize the local peasants and rural proletariat.  She explained her motives to Yerzle after discovering him in her mountain lair.  When he stole one of her eggs as he fled, she branded him an enemy of the revolution, marking him for liquidation.  Her revolutionary efforts have met with limited success, but she has not abandoned them, continuing to tell the local peasants that, in the establishment of a democratic worker's republic "you have nothing to lose but your leashes."

First appearance:  July 16,2001

Mgxrzlk the Unpronounceable:  The most powerful necromancer in Pervis Gap, Mgxrzlk, known as "the Unpronounceable," has dedicated his life to the study and practice of the Black Arts.  This is mostly due to his unfortunate name, which caused him to be ridiculed and ostracized throughout much of his youth.  He now wields great power irresponsibly, and many rightly fear him.  While his lackeys Tunj and Erl were searching for items of his in the possession of Fennurf the Collector, Stillwell managed to break the one item that he had absolutely required his servants to recover.   Since then, he has moved our heroes to the top of his enemies list.

First appearance:  December 14, 2001

Tunj and Erl:  Tunj and Erl are servants of Mgxrzlk the Unpronounceable, the most powerful necromancer in Pervis Gap, and a wizard to be feared.  They originally worked as interns, earning credits from the Wizard's Assistant Training Academy (derisively called "Flunky Tech" by graduates of the Sorcerer's College), and were sent by their employer to retreive some of his possessions.  While attempting to complete their task, they encountered Stillwell and the others, destroying an entire castle in the process.  Despite this failure they are still employed as Mgxrzlk's lackeys.

First appearance:  December 14, 2001

Townsfolk and Others

The Weasel Brothers:

First apperarance:

Stush and Maria:  The proprietors of the Ram & Noodle tavern, Stush and Maria are solid citizens of Pervis Gap.  The Ram & Noodle is one of the more well-known ale houses in town, and as barkeeps, waiters, and landlords, they are quite familiar with the adventuring types such as our heroes claim to be, and have seen them come and go.  Though sympathetic to start-up ventures, they have their own business to run and don't take no guff from no jagoffs 'n'at.

First appearance:  December 4, 2000 (Stush), October 5, 2001 (Maria)

Teneque the Sloppy:  A former teacher at the Sorcerer's College, Teneque was Portia's advisor and a member of her review committee.  He still keeps in touch with her, particularly through the Pervis Gap Sorcerer's Guild.  Although not evil, he is imposing and standoffish, prone to doing things to people against their will, particularly when he is convinced he is in the right.  Which is often.

First appearance:  March 19, 2001
